Moving a crew between locations costs a day at a time. Keeping a whole production in one building is the single largest saving on a vertical shoot.
Choosing the address#
The building has to offer variety floor by floor: a reception that reads as corporate, rooms that can be dressed as homes, and a space large enough for a crowd scene.
One floor, three worlds#
- The lobby became a hotel, a hospital entrance and a courthouse.
- Two meeting rooms were redressed nightly as bedrooms.
- The rooftop hosted the wedding, the proposal and the confrontation.
What it cost and what it saved#
Art direction took longer, since every set was rebuilt more than once. Against that, the production lost no days to travel at all.
